I've always had a fascination with history. Looking at the way people lived 20 years ago or 2000 years ago and the way events shaped our world today can give you insight on how the world works and how we interact with it. Especially with how normal people lived and what they went through during those high profile events such as Pompeii or WWII.
When I was saved and starting getting more into the Bible and the Holy Spirit revealed more to me, I realized how much more fascinating the history of the world was through God's eyes. God was, is and will be working through our events on this earth. The Bible reveals everything in scripture.
I always wanted to do something for the Lord, to use my talents and gifts he blessed me with. I've been in several Christian bands and played in praise teams at the churches we have attended and I currently left my current Christian band to focus more on this.
One day, my family and I were driving through Niagara, Kentucky in Henderson county on the way back home from a job interview I had. We had just returned from living in Florida and I was needing a job to help get us back on our feet. We were taking the back roads (and it is very beautiful through that area) and we turned off onto a smaller road and happened upon an old church and cemetery. The building was of contemporary design and was built in the 1950's. However, the cemetery dated back to the early 1800's according to some of the headstones we found. We stopped and explored and took pictures. I realized that something was off about the church and could feel something tugging on my heart.
Later, when we returned home, I got on the internet and starting searching for the church. I eventually found the church had closed only a couple of years earlier to my sadness. A final Facebook post from the church gave me a name and contact information, which I wrote down and proceeded to call. The gentleman was very eager to talk to me about the church and we set up a time to meet and talk about it. It was then I felt that God had revealed His purpose to me: I needed to tell their story and preserve their history. America was built on these churches, creating and supporting communities around them and spreading the Gospel. Without these small churches, our country would not be what it is today. Some of these churches are now completely gone, some the buildings falling apart with a story still intact, while others are still hanging on with everything they have left, the congregation trying to bring new people into their flock and some are thriving in this new century. And not just churches, but other buildings and communities, now gone or just forgotten and others thriving, but their history lost to time.
I would use the histories of these people and these places to tell the story of our country and to use it as a vessel to spread the Gospel and bring more people to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
It's been a long road from that pivotal moment back in 2021 with many things getting in the way, but with the Lord's help, I have persevered and my friend and I, who I asked to help me create this blog and Youtube channel. We want to use history and current events as a way to engage people into reading the Bible and understanding it is God's gift to us to show us how stay away from temptation, be saved through His son Jesus Christ, and be with Him in heaven.
We also will post blogs about particular topics from the Bible, current events, articles related to our videos as well as answering any questions you may have about the Bible or history.
Hopefully, the history we are trying to preserve will intrigue you and inspire you to learn more about the people and places around you. And with the truth of the Gospel and how God works in our lives I hope it will encourage you to seek out Jesus if you do not know Him.
If you like our content, please like and subscribe to our YouTube page and follow our Facebook page. And if you know of any old churches, old towns (abandoned or thriving) and buildings, please let us know and we can look into starting a blog and even a documentary video for YouTube.
Thank you and God bless.
